Voices of the Past

Downtown Franklin

 

 Spend the weekend with us in beautiful Franklin, Louisiana with over 400 historic properties, many listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Celebrate the 200th birthday of the City of Franklin and St. Mary Parish.  Stroll down an oak arcade, drive along a boulevard of cast iron lampposts and an early 19th century Main Street.  Take the Sweet Remembrances Cemetery Tour, visit 3 historic churches, the Masonic Lodge and the United States Post Office building, attend the Techeland Arts Council's inaugural production and explore seven antebellum homes.  See for yourself the town Lyle Saxon called "one of the prettiest towns in Louisiana."

     ~No Hitchin's "What A Ride" - Performances by Techeland Arts Council will be held Friday at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday at 5:00 p.m.   $15 per performance

     ~Cemetery Tour - Over 25 graves will be highlighted including the 1926 carnival monarchs; the grave of Teddy Roosevelt's old hunting buddy, Crawford Rose; some of the participants in the 1927 Dreher-Lebouef murder trial resulting in the first woman executed in Louisiana and the documentation of ownership of Last Island, the Voisin family.  Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.    $15 per person

     ~St. Mary Landmarks Tour of Homes - Homes on the tour include the Allain House, Bocage on the Teche, Gates House, Grevemberg House, Trowbridge House, Oaklawn Manor and Shadowlawn.  Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  $25 per person in advance; $30 at the door.
