  • Hosted by The Franklin Merchants Association featuring food, crafts, live music, children's activities, car show, vendors, 5K, Bayou Bake Off, special retail promotions and Mutt-Strut Costume Contest. The Harvest Moon Festival began to encourage downtown shopping and support for local merchants and became one of the most anticipated events of the year. It was scheduled during October to celebrate the beginning of harvest season. Many participants & attendees, parish exposure and community supported. Food trucks, school organizations and booth rentals.

Bayou Bake Off

The Cajun Coast Bayou Bake Off will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at The Lamppost, 735 Main Street, Franklin, LA  70538 during Harvest Moon Fest.
Contest rules and basic information:

  • Entries should be delivered between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
  • Judging begins at 11:00 a.m.
  • Awards will be announced at 1:00 p.m.
  • Contestants may have more than one entry. Contestants must be amateurs.
  • Entries must be home cooked (not store bought).
  • Bake goods are to be prepared in a sanitary manner. When submitted all baked goods must be fully baked and complete. Please do not submit anything requiring refrigeration.
  • Any leftover items after 2 p.m. will be the property of the Cajun Coast Visitors & Convention Bureau and Harvest Moon Fest. Entries can be picked up after winners are an­nounced.
  • If entering a cake, pie, custard or cobbler, please enter the entire dessert.  If entering candy, cookies, or brownies, please enter at least one dozen. If baking cupcakes, at least 6 are needed.
  • Each entry should be marked with name of your baked good on the day of contest.
  • Entries should be in a sealed container or Ziploc bag.
  • Please write your name on the bottom (and lid if applicable) of the container used to hold entry.
  • The categories for entries are as follows: brownies/candy/cookies, pie/cobbler/custard and cake/cupcakes.
  • Contestants may work individually or with a team. (Prizes will be awarded to one member/team only - not each individual team member.)
  • Entries must be accompanied by the recipe used to bake it.  With your permission the recipe will be collected for distribution to the public. (If you choose not to give this permission, this will not affect whether your en­try will win a prize.)
  • Cajun Coast Visitors & Convention Bureau reserves the right to use the names, photos, images, videos and relevant quotes of all entrants and winners.
  • Cajun Coast employees and immediate family members of Cajun Coast are not eligible to win.


Contest Day:

  • Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. at The Lamppost, 735 Main Street, Franklin, LA  70538
  • Please be on time.
  • No visitors, contestants or children are allowed in the judging area.
  • The contest chairpersons are Regina Wiese-Wheeler and Christal Carter.

The Scoring System:

  • Submissions will be judged on a scale of 1-5 - 5 being the highest on presentation, texture, taste, consistency and overall impression.
  • The Committee will tally the ballots. The contestant with the highest score will be the winner.
